This thesis project focuses on the development of a technological platform within the framework of a Smart City, providing the essential services for the city of La Punta – Callao as well as combining technology with information to improve the quality of life, reduce the energy cost, and the environmental impact. The design was first created for the city of La Punta because there is a high level of educational attainment among its population, 63.4% has college education, 32.4% has secondary education, and 3.9% has primary education. In fact, they have the lowest level of population without education, 0.2% is for men and 0.4% is for women. Therefore, it should be noted that La Punta’s residents have capabilities which increase the quality of their human potential. For instance, in terms of technological tools, 91.3% have a cell phone, 55% have internet, 20.9% have more than two computers at home, that is almost 100% of households have some technological device. With respect to community safety in this city, the levels of violence, crime, and criminal acts are quite low, however, this situation changes during the summer season when individuals (20 to 30 thousand) from other places come to visit. As for the socioeconomic aspect, 87.5% of the population is on level B, 10% is on level C, and 2.5% is on level D. And another important point to mention is that it has tourist and gastronomic potentials such as: - 104 monuments - 2 Beaches - 1 Ecological Reserve - 39 restaurants and soda shops - 2 lodgings - 6 town squares and boardwalks - 3 water sport areas - 3 nearby islands This design can be replicated in other cities by adapting the requirements, and in the same way, services can be added to the place where it will be developed since creating a Smart City is a long-term project that involves new needs of individuals and new technology. In the first chapter, we will determine the current state of La Punta from the social and technological point of view, to analyze the causes and effects of the central problem and identify the objectives of this work. The second chapter will show the technological foundations that define a Smart City, citing some examples of how this was created in other cities and the intervention of the Internet of Things (IoT) for the development related to the services given to individuals. For the third chapter, we plan the design with the appropriate dimensions for the city with the required devices to apply the best solution, the Android system for the implementation of the mobile application, as well as tests that are carried out in the communication between the devices. As for the fourth chapter, we calculate the costs of investment, operation, and maintenance. And also, the income that could be earned in the system to determine the feasibility of the project through the use of NPV and IRR. Ultimately, the conclusions and recommendations for the implementation of the system are presented.
