Musical practices in Peru have been developing over the years, since the arrival of the afro community to Peru. However, we must ask ourselves what is the role played by these Afro- Peruvian practices, mainly in the current Lima music scene, and how they are influencing the process of building a collective identity within the Afro-Peruvian community. Therefore, the answer to this question would be that these Afro-Peruvian musical practices are in search of validating and recognizing the Afro-Peruvian population, and promoting the process of memorizing them over the years. Throughout this research, the process of Afro-Peruvian cultural renaissance will be discussed, a phenomenon that is key to understanding in a closer way how Afro-Peruvian musical practices today influence the current Lima music scene. In addition, will be discussing the role that Peru Negro, one of the most emblematic groups of Afro-Peruvian folklore in Peru, plays by spreading Afro-Peruvian culture nationally and internationally. Finally, the issue of Afro-Peruvian identity will always be present in the investigation, since as the years have passed, the Afro-Peruvian community has built, and continues to build, a very notorious collective identity that makes them unique and irreplaceable.
