The present study addresses the relationship between victim blaming and emotional disclosure. To achieve this goal, three studies were conducted with a progressive logic. The first study examines the characteristics of the discourse directed towards a victim of sexual violence read from the theory of ambivalent sexism. To this end, comments in response to sexual violence news expressed on Facebook were analyzed. The results show that benevolent and hostile sexism provides the foundation for most of the stereotypes and myths used as justification for the victim blaming. The results of the first study served as input for the second study, whose objective was the creation and validation of a scale for measuring of sexual victim blaming. On the other hand, the results of the second study shows a scale with optimal psychometric properties. Finally, the third experimental study, sought to prove whether emotional disclosure can function as an attenuator of sexual victim blaming. The third study also sought to explore the relationship between emotional disclosure, victim blaming, alexithymia and empathy. The results show that emotional disclosure works as an attenuator of sexual victim blaming.
