In this thesis, a Dynamic Matrix Controller (DMC) is developed for pressure control, in a laboratory-scale pilot plant for the transport of fluids that emulates the dynamic behavior of an oil pipeline, which makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of the control system, as well as reducing pipeline breaks, leaks and environmental damage. A review of the state of the art of pressure control systems in oil pipelines is carried out. The description of the pilot plant for the transport of fluids and the identification of the dynamic behavior of the pressure in this plant is developed. The DMC controller is designed based on the derived mathematical model, control actions are also generated and simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the control system. A comparative study is carried out to analyze the robustness and efficiency of the developed DMC vs PID controller. The results of the simulations carried out show that the designed DMC controller exhibits good performance in pressure control of the plant under study, and therefore, it constitutes an efficient and reliable solution for precise pressure control in real industrial oil pipelines, which will make it possible to increase efficiency and safety in oil transportation.
