The restrictions of the socioeconomic context of Lima during the nineties not only generated the persistence of social problems that came from the last decade, but also widened the existing social gap. This research is focused on presenting the shortcomings of the neoliberal system based on the case of extreme metal in Lima, a community that despite socioeconomic limits was recognized both outside and inside Peru. In relation to this, it is postulated that the success of the scene was not only motivated by a simple taste for a particular genre, but also by an awareness of economic status that distinguished it from another: in this case, heavy metalheads as “pituco“ and “sold.“
