This research seeks to identify and analyze the communication interventions that address the crime of human trafficking -their discourses and characteristics- in order to use them in processes of visibility and public recognition that allows to increase awareness of such crime and modify the perception of victims in the population of Puerto Maldonado. This paper used qualitative content analysis to examine the frames and discourses present in the communication resources that have been reproduced in the 2017-18 period by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and institutions facing human trafficking. Furthermore, it aims to know the existing cultural models around this problematic in said population and how might them have been affected by the exposure to the resources investigated drawing on interviews with Puerto Maldonado citizens. The results indicate that the communicational resources studied fail to cause an effect on the population due to a disagreement between the discourses developed through the frames of these resources and the cultural models identified in the target audience. In addition, it shows a lack of design and ideation of these communication pieces from a behavior change perspective and the social marketing principles.
