The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between family functioning and self-esteem in adolescent and young adult women with one or more diagnoses of eating disorders (ED). The sample consisted of 29 women between 15 and 30 years old (M=20.90, SD=2.986). The instruments used were Smilkstein's (1978) Family APGAR, which measures family functioning, and Rosenberg's (1973) self-esteem scale, which measures the level of selfesteem. Likewise, it was found that family functioning and self-esteem present a statistically significant, positive and large relationship ( r = .602). No significant differences were found in the levels of family functioning according to diagnosis (AN or BN). Finally, it was reported that age and self-esteem present a statistically significant and direct relationship in female ED patients (r = .286).
