Entrepreneurial orientation and passion are human traits that contribute to management strategies that drive employee innovation in organizations. The purpose of this study was to conduct an empirical research to analyze the mediating effect of entrepreneurial passion in the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and innovative work behavior in employees of small and medium-sized companies in Peru. The research used a non-experimental cross-sectional research design. The data were obtained from a random sample of 300 employees of SMEs in the manufacturing, agricultural and livestock sectors of Peru. The results revealed that entrepreneurial orientation produces a direct and positive effect on entrepreneurial passion and innovative work behavior. Furthermore, it was found that entrepreneurial passion produces a mediating effect in the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and innovative work behavior. It is concluded that entrepreneurial orientation in managers of organizations promotes their passion towards entrepreneurship and drives innovative work behavior in employees, which is why entrepreneurial passion acts as a mediating construct since it receives the effects produced by entrepreneurial orientation and transmits the effects towards innovative work behavior. The research provides evidence-based knowledge of the causal relationships between three important constructs related to entrepreneurship, analyzing their direct and indirect effects on innovative work behavior. The new knowledge related to the entrepreneurial orientation of employees will allow professionals responsible for managing organizations to have a better idea of their entrepreneurial passion and innovative behavior, contributing to fine-tune institutional entrepreneurial strategies.
