The present research work refers to the analysis of the project “Improvement of the production and marketing of guinea pig” in the associations of guinea pig producers Real Perú and Cerro La Culebra belonging to the area of social influence of the Colquisiri mining company, in the districts of Huaral. and Chancay, province of Huaral, Lima region, respectively. The purpose of this study is to identify the potential and limitations of the project in the period 2019-2021 as a pilot with a projection of future improvement and expansion, with a participatory and sustainability approach from its formulation. The method to carry out the research is based on the qualitative approach, whose methodological design adopted is the case study. Based on a small population, samples are chosen from the most representative actors to apply interviews, life stories and focus groups. This process leads to identifying the main social changes at the organizational, productive and commercial levels. Among the findings of the study, it is possible to note that the project had relatively good results, given the resources such as endogenous capabilities of the users, the economic support of the mining company and agreements with State entities. But once the health emergency occurred, the company's support was reduced and only a part of the Cerro La Culebra association remained united, which had solid leadership and was able to take advantage of the opportunities that arose during the pandemic and currently. They have their own brand, marketing and sales in restaurants, gastronomic fairs and individual clients. The other producers, for the most part, remained as individual producers. This highlights that the technical part has been better assimilated than the organizational and commercial part, which denotes the limitations that must be taken into account in the future to strengthen a guinea pig production chain in the area. An important aspect to note is that the project created conditions so that a next phase can be replicated in the future, in which it is possible to take advantage of the potential of the area and the producers, as well as correct the limitations that have been identified. There are agreements with State institutions, product demand in local establishments, support in social responsibility of the mining company, capacity of local users for the activity, among other strengths and opportunities.
