This research work was focused on finding the possible relationship between personality and leadership styles, as well as the influence of the moderating variables of age and country. A random sample was used composed of executives of middle and upper management from the retail, banking and private university industries of Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, aged between 25 and 65 years and with more than five (5) years of experience exercising their labors. For data collection, the model of the five personality factors, called the Revised Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R), developed by Costa and McCrae (1992) and the standardized leadership test called the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), were used. developed by Bass and Avolio (1994), which includes nine observable variables that explain transformational, transactional, and “non-leadership” or laissez faire leadership styles. For data analysis, SmartPLS 3 software was used using structural equation models. The results reflected that personality is related to transformational leadership and passive-avoidant leadership (not leadership) laissez faire, as well as the results reflected that personality is not related to transactional leadership. Finally, the analysis of the moderating variables of age and country yielded results that do not present significant values that allow evidence of an influence on the relationship of personality with the three (3) types of leadership.
