Behavioral finance studies the influence of psychological factors on financial decision making and constitutes a relatively new discipline within the field of behavioral economics. From this perspective, the main objective of this research was to determine the implications of pain of paying and mental accounting in decisions to use credit cards in young people from North Lima born between 1980 - 2000, taking as a reference that consumers committed deviations in their behaviors in the decision-making process. In this way, this research coupled theoretical information on consumer and credit decision-making with empirical research and sought to address the influence of credit card use on the overindebtedness of the young population of North Lima. Likewise, a face-to-face survey was carried out, which included the participation of 384 people, residents of Lima Norte, and born between 1980 and 2000. According to the results of empirical research, the conclusions obtained in previous studies were reinforced, they allowed us to verify that the propensity to spend increases when using a credit card instead of cash. Therefore, the main conclusion of the research is that, the greater the consumption with the credit card, the youth of North Lima are more prone to overindebted. It was taken as variables that contributed to decision-making to make a purchase, the pain of paying and mental accounting.
