ABSTRACT Cajamarca is one of the 24 Peru´s regions, and it is the most populated of the Andean zone, in which the rural area is predominate (70%), with high levels of poverty (56%) and child malnutrition (32%). In order to confront and overcome the poverty and child malnutrition, it is necessary the involvement of the government, civil society and the private sector. The intervention of the private sector in issues related to the development of the community is through social development projects that their Social Responsibility (RS) programs or areas implement. The objective of this research is to present metrics of Social Return on Investment (SROI) to measure the impacts of social development projects financed by a mining company. After analyze (08) social projects implemented in Cajamarca between the years 2018 and 2017, which were financed by the mining industry, we determinate that they did not have Social Return on Investment (SROI) metrics, even though the cost of those projects were more than $ 5 million; subsequent, we interviewed professionals linked to social development projects focused on corporate social responsibility, which allowed us to identify (10) criteria that social projects must consider in order to measure the Social Return on Investment. Based on those criteria, we elaborated a set of 09 metrics that project managers could use in order to measure the Social Return on Investment of their social development projects; those metrics were analyzed and adjusted with the support of professionals from the social responsibility area of a mining company. Finally, it is worth mentioning that this proposal of metrics will support mining companies to select, design, monitor and evaluate the Social Return on Investment of the social development projects. KEY WORDS: Social responsibility, corporate social responsibility, indicators of social profitability.
