Abstract: Introducción.
Intervenciones.
Introduction Depression during gestation is a prevalent problem worldwide and of great importance, which affects the health of the pregnant woman and infant. There are few studies that relate the subject of depression and social support during pregnancy. Objective. To determine the relationship between depression and social support in pregnant women. Design Non-experimental, correlational and transversal design is used. Institution. A Mother and Child Center in the Comas district, Lima, Peru. Interventions. Prior informed consent, the pregnant women filled out the instrument for collecting demographic data, and used the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and the Perceived Social Support Questionnaire (MOS). The sample consisted of 205 pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 42. The data were processed in the statistical software SPSS 22.0. Results. The prevalence of prenatal depression was 19.5%. The association between the variables prenatal depression and social support resulted in a moderate negative correlation (rho=-.529). Conclusions. Prenatal depression was significantly associated negatively with the presence of social support. The prevalence of depression coincides with the global reference rate, appropriate measures are required for its detection and intervention primarily at the first level of care.
