The influence of the particle size and contact time of the coffee waste in the removal of lead II from the mining effluent was determined. The experimental study was carried out by batch agitation method and the investigation was bifactorial, evaluating particle size in a range of 850, 425 and 250 µm and different contact time 30, 60 and 90 minutes with an initial lead concentration of 1.32 mg/l. The result of the study concluded that the removal of lead (1.32 mg/l) at a particle size of 250 microns and contact time 90 minutes was 87.85%. The samples of mining effluent with lead were analyzed in the instrumental analysis laboratory of the Environmental Engineering career at the Universidad Privada del Norte, using the flame type atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipment. The result was confirmed by the analysis of variance to determine the effect of the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Finally the hypothesis is affirmed, therefore, the influence of particle size and contact time of the coffee waste does significantly influence the removal of lead. The results showed that this method can be used as a low cost option
