Firefighters perform a great work that involves different risks or extremely complicated and traumatic situations, which can impact on the mental health of those firefighters who are exposed to the various emergencies they experience daily. The present study aimed to determine the correlation between suicidal ideation and psychological trauma in volunteer firefighters of the V Departmental Command, Callao. A total of 249 active firefighters participated, 159 men (63.9%) and 90 women (36.1%). Average age was 32.78 years (SD=7.64), between 22 and 57 years old. The instruments used to assess the symptoms of psychological trauma and suicidal ideation were the Impact of Event Scale (IES-R) and the Suicidal Ideation Scale (ISS). It was observed in the results that the participating firefighters reported low levels of suicidal ideation and psychological trauma, as well as a low direct correlation (p=0.01), likewise no statistically significant differences were found between suicidal ideation and psychological trauma according to sex and age.
