ABSTRACT This thesis studies the influence of crushed glass in the resistance to axial compression of handmade clay bricks. For the classification of the International Standard bricks E.070 “The glass masonry units is added to increase the resistance to axial compression ratios of five, ten, fifteen, twenty, fifty percent of glass is used. The thesis begins with the theoretical description, classification and properties of clay bricks in order to describe the trials, which will undergo clay bricks, and thus able to verify compliance with the Technical Noma Peruvian E.070 and NTP INTINTEC 331,017 Once verified compliance with the rules will proceed to describe the main definition for a handmade clay brick. Materials, equipment and instruments and procedures and calculations of testing liquid limit, plastic limit, clay grain sizes, moisture content, proctor, which material was extracted from the brick detailing of the hill. In this paper the mix design for each percentage of glass, clay bricks which were developed in the laboratory of the Universidad Private del Norte was performed. At the time of the trial compliance was verified with the minimum requirements of the compressive strength, absorption, warping, suction, visual aspects (size, weight, texture and color), when adding crushed glass to clay brick .Finally artisan concluded that adding 10% of crushed glass has a compressive strength of 9.59 MPa.
