ABSTRACT The present research was carried out with the objective of evaluating the proportions of PVC wastes upholstery's on the resistance to compression, flexion settlement and costs in a concrete for rigid pavement design with a mixture of 280 kg/cm2 by ACI 211 method. The PVC wastes (polyvinyl chloride) used; were collected from small upholstery's industries at Trujillo city. They were mainly classified to the transparent appearance, at the time they were classified and were cut into macro fibers with a measurement corresponding to 2 mm x 50 mm. When the macro fibers were at the required size, already fulfilling the classification of fibers, they were evaluated in the concrete at 3 kg/m3, 4 kg/m3 and 5 kg/m3 proportions, at the time we incorporate these residues slightly improve their compression resistance (ASTM C39), increase the resistance to the bending (ASTM C 78), they produce a loss of settlement (ASTM C 143) and optimize costs when designing a rigid pavement; Finally; after having evaluated the amount of raised specimens, and confirming the hypothesis, we compared the results obtained with the concrete pattern. When we perform the data analysis and the discussion of results, we obtained that the concrete with amount of reinforcement 5 kg/m3 showed better results with respect to the compressive strength with an improvement of 12 % with respect to the concrete pattern; in what concerns to the bending resistance, property that it was most favored to reinforce the concrete with this material, because it won a resistance of 20 % respect to the concrete pattern; and finally in relationship to the settlement of that concrete, there was only a loss of Settlement of 1.5 cm with respect to the concrete pattern. With the results obtained, corresponding to the mechanical tests of the concrete, we decided to design a rigid pavement by AASTHO-93 method (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials), where we obtained thickness of tread folder to the concrete pattern (20.8 cm) and reinforced (18.8 cm), getting a reduction of the layer thickness of 2.0 cm, generating a reduction of concrete volumes and an evident reduction of costs. Finally; We can affirm that; if we have a good performance of the types of upholstery´s residue on the mechanical properties of concrete, then we can use it as a reinforcement of this, and at the same time we can reduce environmental impacts and accomplish with the exposed at the General Law of waste solid N° 27790.
