ABSTRACT The present investigation is of descriptive analytical type, that presents its problem in the area of mechanical maintenance due to the constant unscheduled stops for unexpected failures of the heavy machinery of the Company Martínez Contratistas E Ingeniería S.A; therefore, the main objective was to design a maintenance management plan to improve the mechanical availability of heavy machinery, through technical and operational changes that may reduce unscheduled downtime, improving the overall production process. After analyzing and evaluating the situation of the deficiency of equipment availability, the design of a maintenance management plan was presented to improve mechanical availability, which is in general average at 86.97%; it is expected that with the possible application of the design of a maintenance management plan the mechanical availability will improve by 92%, said design of a maintenance management plan is elaborated based on the improvement opportunities of the maintenance area of the Company Martínez Contratistas E Ingeniería SA, In the same way, the economic evaluation of the maintenance management plan was made, which amounts to a cost of $. 618, 375.58 in spare parts, plus $. 615,360.00 That would not be received due to the stops in the possible execution of the new corrective maintenance plan, since by not having this design the company would have lost $ 2,933,800.00 in 2017 in hours / machine. It was concluded to propose the design of a maintenance management plan to improve the mechanical availability, as well as reduce the constant stops no programs and in this way increase the profitability of the company.
