The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship of irrational beliefs and self-concept in students of a University of Trujillo. The sample consisted of 371 students whose ages were between 18 and 25 years, with an average of 20 years, selected with a stratified sample. The design of the research was Cross-sectional Correlational; the data collection instruments: Self-concept Questionnaire Form 5 - AF5 (García and Musitu, 2001) adapted by (Bustos, et al 2015) and the Irrational Belief Test (TCI), Calvete and Cardeñoso (1999), adapted in the present investigation. The evaluation of the correlation between the variables under study was performed with Spearman's rho correlation coefficient, evaluating the magnitude of the correlation with the size of the effect. The results showed evidence of the existence of inverse correlation with effect size of small magnitude of irrational beliefs with self-concept in said students (from rho between -0.11 and -0.27): need for approval, blame, defenselessness about change, avoidance of problems, dependence, Influence of the past with the academic factor; likewise between need for approval, high self-expectations, blame and defenselessness about change with the social factor; likewise between dependence and Influence of the past with the emotional factor; as well as between need for approval, high selfexpectations and helplessness about the change with the family factor; in the same way between the need for approval and blame and the physical factor of the aforementioned students. Results that confirm the hypothesis raised in the present investigation.
