ABSTRACT The present investigation has as general objective, to apply Lean Manufacturing Tools, in order to eliminate wastes in the Secondary Crusher plant of Lagunas Norte mine, belonging to the Corporation Barrick Gold. The elimination of these wastes will allow us to increase the productivity of processing mineral, reaching a lean and sure productive process and with lower costs. An analysis of the current situation allows us to identify some activities in which there were opportunities of improvement. These opportunities consist basically on optimizing processes, eliminating some unnecessary activities, standardizing activities, it means, to create a standard methodology of work. It was defined, that the most indicated tools of Lean Manufacturing which could help to correct these diversions would be: SMED, 5’s and Poka Yoke. As result of this investigation, we can say that applying these tools, it will be achieved: To increase the Tons of processed mineral per month. To reduce the time in HH, used on pick up metals from conveyors or in activities of take out mineral from dump pocket, in order to prepare the plant for a PM. To reduce the time of production stops, due to the activities of take out mineral from dump pocket and pick up metals from conveyors. As result of the present work, it was achieved: To increase the Tons of processed mineral per month: Of an average of 1,602,530 Ton in 2011 to 1,631,104 Ton in 2012. To reduce the time used on takes out mineral from dump pocket, in order to prepare the plant for a PM. Of an average of 4.47 hrs/month in 2011 to 2.92 hrs/month in 2012. To reduce the time used on pick up metals from conveyors: Of an average of 4.69 hrs/month in 2011 to 1.66 hrs/month in 2012. It means US$ 1,464,843 of savings for the company per year.
