ABSTRACT The relationship between PM 10 (particulate matter less than 10 microns) and wind behavior from 2012 to 2015 was analyzed; To carry out this analysis statistical methods were applied as the average to find the average wind result, the resulting direction, the average wind and the persistence; Which allowed us to identify the existence or not of a predominant direction. The PM 10 data were grouped in intervals according to their concentration on an annual and global basis. In order to do this, the Sturges rule was applied and frequency tables were constructed, according to the intervals established the wind roses were made in the WRPLOP View Version 7.0.0 software, to observe the relationship between the variables, in addition, the results of PM 10 concentration were compared with the National Environmental Quality Standards for Air. The result obtained was that the wind directly influences the dispersion and concentration of PM 10 in the atmosphere of the city of Cajamarca; The relation between the wind velocity and the PM 10 concentration is inversely proportional because at a lower wind speed the concentration is higher, while the relation with the dispersion is directly proportional since at a higher velocity there is a greater dispersion. With regard to persistence none of the years has a predominant wind direction. According to the Air Quality Standard (ECA) for PM 10 established for the 24-hour period, December 29 2013, exceeds the established standard, while the other dates evaluated are below this.
