ABSTRACT This thesis determines and analyzes the changes that occurred in the stereotypes used in the fairy tale films as of the audiovisual narrative of the main characters of the saga of Shrek in youngsters from 20 to 24 years old, who live in the district of San Martín de Porres. In the audiovisual narrative, the use of stereotypes is very common, with the purpose of establishing emotional links with the viewer, establishing an idea of culture (values and beliefs) and limiting them, and the characterization of characters. Our goal is to show the change in gender stereotypes within the narrative, taking the film Shrek as a watershed, by showing a different construction of the prince and the princess, main roles in fairy tales. Surveys were conducted among young people from 20 to 24 years in universities, shopping centers and the like, places where they tend to meet more frequently. According to the publicity and the saga of Shrek, the survey respondents could remember easily the traits of the main characters in spite of the years between the release of the film and the study. The results show that the changes in gender stereotypes became more evident in the behavior, as well as in the expression of physical beauty. Shrek's proposal was accepted and considered a new way of seeing and telling traditional fairy tales.
