ABSTRACT The illegality of alcoholic beverages is one of the most important issues in the Peruvian economy has been persistent over time and affects several sectors despite the efforts of the national government to control it. Speci fi cally, much of the interest in these activities has concentrated on smuggling. SUNAT estimated that this activity moves about $ 726.4 million annually in the country of moonshine, representing a tax loss to US $ 117.4 million in tax revenue. Within the illegality one of the most profitable markets is the liquor. Likewise, adulteration and falsification has been one of the phenomena that most concern It has generated, especially in recent years. Now, although it is recognized that there is a serious problem of adulteration of alcoholic beverages, there is no knowledge and complete information on this illegal activity; on the contrary, the available information is partial and its sources are so diverse that do not allow a comprehensive view of the problem. In a more recent study by Euromonitor International Consultant, concluding that 1 out of every 4 bottles sold in Peru is counterfeit or adulterated each. According to Euromonitor, the consumption of illegal alcohol is a serious problem that is present in the world and its growth in Peru is driven by the lack of control over the production of industrial ethanol and high taxes that affect the legal alcohol. Similarly, it estimated that informality is gaining strength in the country for the lack of controls and insufficient resources for the prosecution of those who commit crimes against the welfare of citizens.
