The family is fundamental in determining the use of coping strategies. The main objective of this study was to determine the relationship between family climate and coping strategies in Psychology students at a Private University of the City of Cajamarca. A sample of 82 students was evaluated, of which 67.1% are female and 32.9% are male with an age range of 18 to 20 years, selected through a probabilistic technique. The Social Family Climate Scale (FES) and the Brief Cope Coping Scale 28 were used, and inferential techniques were used for data analysis and processing. A significant, low and direct relationship was found between family climate and coping with stress. A highly significant correlation was found between family climate and the problem-focused dimension of coping, but no relationship was found with the emotion-focused dimension. The sub-dimensions of family climate and coping strategies were related, finding a significant relationship between them. Therefore, if a negative family climate is experienced, it implies the use of non-adaptive strategies and the other way around.
