ABSTRACT This research, design type - correlational, whose main objective is to determine the relationship between Family Functioning and Adolescent Emotional Intelligence underperforming three private institutions of Pacasmayo. The population consisted of 153 students from first to fifth secondary of both sexes, of which a sample of 110 adolescents, who were applied a questionnaire survey family, to classify the population evaluated first was obtained; and then two psychological tests (- Family Functioning and “Traid Meta - Mood Scale (TMMS- 24)“ - Emotional Intelligence FACES IV) were applied. According to the results, it must be the correlation between the variables studied and most of its dimensions; which highlights the importance of the family in the development of emotional intelligence of adolescents; because these factors also affect their academic performance. Therefore, although there are different types of family, each has its own rules and standards of performance and growth, which determine in some way or another evolutionary process based on their emotional development.
