The objective of any business is to seek maximum profitability by optimizing the use of resources, processes and the application of new technologies. Numerous investigations and papers have reported that the fragmentation produced by blasting has the potential to positively impact the results of the Crushing - Grinding circuit. This article describes the case study of the GOLDEN SAC mine in Peru, which has conducted a study focused on improving rock fragmentation. The project was based on techniques to reduce the mesh size, increase the power factor and the use of electronic initiation. In the GOLDEN SAC mine, the study identified that, to achieve the objective desired by the organization, investments in blasting processes were required in order to obtain improvements in fragmentation. This was demonstrated by processing the information obtained from various departments and considering variables ranging from the drilling phase to the crushing and grinding processes. It is also valid to highlight the influence of variables such as geology and rock competition, which gives rise to different distributions of hard and soft minerals that are exploited in different periods according to the mine plan. The additional investment in blasting resulted in a reduction of up to 42% P80 and an increase of up to 21% in the productivity of mining equipment. These improvements resulted in a positive impact on the SAG grinding process, with an increase of up to 12%, which translates into a profit of 7.5 MM US $ / month for the processing plant.
