ABSTRACT This research aims to determine the association between parental socialization and self-concept in students with low socioeconomic level, who has a scholarship at a private university of Trujillo. The design that was used is the correlational descriptive, and the type of sampling was random. For that purpose, a sample of 86 students of the engineering career, men and women with an average age of 18 years old were evaluated. The instruments used are the Parental Socialization Scale for Adolescents of Musito and García, and the Garley de Belén García Self-Concept Questionnaire. We conclude that there is no association between parenting styles and the adolescent self – concept. However, there is a moderate relationship between some sub dimensions of the styles of parental socialization and the dimensions of self-concept; in addition the dimension of the styles of parental socialization in both father and mother that predominates more is the authoritative and the dimension of auto-concept that predominates more is the Sensation of Control.
