The population of urban centers facing the need for housing have opted for self-construction, construction buildings with characteristics that are not favorable to the structure, these features give them a degree of vulnerability to seismic events. This thesis focuses on the evaluation of seismic vulnerability in self-constructed masonry dwellings, in the Barrio 2 District of El Porvenir central sector, using the Benedetti-Petrini vulnerability index methodology. Which qualifies the characteristics of each dwelling based on 11 parameters and where each of them has a weight of importance that differentiates them from each other, to subsequently assess their degree of vulnerability, in a range established by the authors, in the face of seismic events. From the results obtained evaluating 16 houses, it was determined that 68.75% of them have a high degree of vulnerability, 18.75% a low degree of vulnerability, and finally the degree of low and high vulnerability occupy a percentage of 6.75% each. These results are the result of the unfavorable characteristics of these buildings, such as the soil that predominates in the study area, which is an S3 type, the low conventional resistance that 87.5% of the houses present, the irregularities in the floor that present 75 % of them and the separation between walls that exceeds the maximum allowable with 81.25% of these buildings.
