The main objective of the present investigation was to determine the relationship between adherence to highly active antiretroviral treatment and quality of life. The sample consisted of 100 patients with a diagnosis of HIV between 18 and 65 years of age of both sexes who were receiving highly active antiretroviral treatment in a hospital in Lima - Peru. The study has a quantitative approach of a non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational design. The instrument used to measure adherence to HAART was the Antiretroviral Treatment Adherence Questionnaire (CEAT-HIV) and the Quality of Life Index (ICV) was used for the Quality of Life variable; Both instruments have been validated for use in Peru and have adequate reliability and validity. It was found that there is a statistically significant correlation (p <0.05) between quality of life variables and adherence to antiretroviral treatment. In conclusion, it is evident that the evaluated patients who present greater adherence to HAART tend to present a better quality of life.
