ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to determine the optimal area for projecting the urban growth in the neighborhood The Paccha from the city of Cajamarca, according to the load capacity. For the development of this research samples were extracted from the study areas of the neighborhood Paccha, to then perform the lab tests, then in the laboratory the trials were conducted of moisture content, density natural - volumetric method and cone of sand, specific weight, limits of Atterberg, granulometry per wash and Proctor modified. To obtain the bearing capacity of the existing floor in the area, made use of the formula of Terzaghi and the characteristic parameters of the soil, using tables was determined the cohesion and internal friction angle of soil types, found according to the classification of soils by the unified system of classification of soils (SUCS), and also made use of the test of specific weight found in the laboratory. as a result, it was observed that the soil of the area of study presents a capacity of admissible load of design that varies between 0.80 Kg/cm2 to 1.86 kg/cm2 for shoe square and 0.61 kg/cm2 to 1.56 kg/cm2 for a foundation corrido, the following types of soil are: limo sandy (ML), clay slight sandy (CL), arenas silty loam textures (SM), clays silty loam textures functional low plasticity (OL), clay organic with median plasticity (OH).
