Objective: Determine the association between the level of knowledge regarding child abuse with the professional experience of pediatric dentists in Peru. Materials and methods: Observational, analytical and transversal study. Sample made up of a total of 180 pediatric dentists from Peru between 24 and 64 years’ old who met the inclusion requirements. To determine the level of knowledge, the questionnaire designed and used in a previous study conducted in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, was used. Likewise, the variables age, gender, years of professional practice as a pediatric dentist and faculty of graduation from the specialty were included. A descriptive analysis was conducted using absolute and relative frequencies; and a bivariate analysis using the Chi square test. Results: A low level of knowledge regarding child abuse was obtained in 50% of the population. Furthermore, 71.11% of the population is not aware of the existence of a protocol. Likewise, a statistically significant association was evident between the level of knowledge regarding child abuse with age (p<0.001), years of professional practice as a pediatric dentist (p<0.001) and the degree of graduation from the specialty (p<0.001). Conclusions: A statistically significant association was found between the level of knowledge regarding child abuse with age, years of professional practice as a pediatric dentist and faculty of graduation; young adults and young people presenting a low level of knowledge. Likewise, both the private and public specialty graduation faculty, as well as pediatric dentists who have less than 6 years of professional practice, presented a low level of knowledge regarding child abuse; Unlike the international faculty and pediatric dentists with more than 15 years of professional practice in the specialty, they presented an important level of knowledge.
