A comparative evaluation was carried out of the effect of whey included in the drinking water in different proportions, on the productive behavior and intestinal health in broiler chickens during the initiation (1-21 days of age) and growth (21-42 days of age) stages. age). 495 one-day-old male and female Cobb 500 chickens were used, randomly distributed in five treatments and three repetitions of 33 broilers each. The treatments were: T1 APC Zinc Bacitracin (0.5 kg/MT of feed), T2 with 30% whey, T3 with 40% whey, T4 with 50% whey included in the drinking water and T5 commercial organic acid (2 kg/MT of feed). Weekly samples of gizzard, liver, pancreas, duodenum, jejunum, ileum and cecum were obtained from six birds per treatment, for allometric, histomorphometric, pH and microbiological determinations. There were no statistical differences (P>0.05) in weight, feed consumption, water consumption or feed conversion between experimental groups. Nor were differences found in the allometry of digestive organs, expressed as a function of live weight. Villus histomorphometry showed structural modifications in length, crypt depth and diameter as a function of time in favor of treatments with lactosureo and organic acids, as signs of body growth promoters. Only in the pH of the digesta of the cecum were differences found between treatments and between the two rearing stages evaluated, a result of organic acids generated by the enterobacterial fermentation of lactose, promoting a positive effect for the proliferation of a beneficial microbiota (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria) for good intestinal health. The best economic benefits were reported in treatments that included whey in the drinking water. It is concluded that the inclusion of up to 50% of whey in the drinking water acts as a prebiotic, improving intestinal health and promoting efficient productive performance in broilers.
