It is almost impossible to find any job that does not present some threat to the worker, as absolutely everything around us is a constant danger that can materialize into potential risks. Building construction is one of the sectors with the highest accident rates worldwide, due to the significant exposure of civil workers to hazards on construction sites. Therefore, this research proposes the implementation of BIM 8D in the traditional safety system of a building construction project, with the aim of reducing on-site accidents. The focus of the study is on working at heights, beginning with an analysis of the project's current situation to define the initial information for the study. The process continues with the creation of a digital model in Revit, followed by the identification and evaluation of the project's hazards and risks. Control measures are then implemented to mitigate the risk level of these hazards. The results showed a decrease in risk levels, completely eliminating the extreme and high risks that were initially identified. Additionally, non-fatal on-site accidents were reduced from 6 initially recorded cases to 0, achieving a 100% reduction. Hazardous incidents decreased from 8 to 3, representing a 63% reduction. The comparison between both methods demonstrates greater benefits in the application of BIM 8D compared to the traditional safety system. Clear advantages in the application of the BIM 8D methodology are evident, making its use imperative.
