Over time, asphalt pavement deteriorates due to vehicle load and weather conditions. This deterioration manifests as structural failures, with the most common being rutting, cracks, and alligator cracking. These pavement damages are common on Peruvian roads, as they often do not account for the appropriate design for heavy vehicle traffic. Additionally, climate changes also contribute to the deterioration of asphalt pavement. The Central Highway is a high-traffic road that likely does not receive the necessary maintenance, as evidenced by its poor condition. The issue at hand is the low durability of the asphalt pavement, attributed to heavy vehicle loads and constant precipitation. The present research aims to reduce the aging and permeability of the asphalt layer by adding zycotherm and incorporating a PVC geomembrane. To carry out this investigation, several assays were used, such as the adhesion assay on coarse aggregate, the Marshall flow and stability assay, and the Lottman assay. Additionally, a simulation was conducted using Abaqus software. In conclusion, the addition of zycotherm and the geomembrane improves the useful life of the pavement. Attaining an 85% impermeability and reducing aging by 23% on the Central Highway.
