Over the last decades, the film industry has shown a growing interest in addressing representations of sexism, stereotypes, and gender inequalities as a way to criticize the dynamics of power in society. Therefore, it is possible to observe that one of the strategies used to achieve this is the creation of alternative worlds, where inverted realities are presented and where women are portrayed as dominant figures and men as inferior beings. Likewise, several studies have been developed to analyze the role of language in representing these phenomena and its influence in shaping people's perspectives. For this reason, the present study, situated in the field of translation and linguistic research, seeks to analyze the textual representations of sexist language and gender roles in the English and neutral Spanish subtitling of the film Je ne suis pas un homme facile (Pourriat, 2018), in comparison with the original French version. It is assumed that stereotypes and cultural norms prevalent in each linguistic system influence the translation of discourses that address gender-related issues. Hence, this research attempts to contribute to the analysis of the textual representation of sexism and gender stereotypes within the framework of audiovisual translation.
