Introduction: The COVID-19 disease is a global public health emergency that over time has generated damage at different levels of the human organism. It has been observed that it essentially affects the respiratory system; however, there are also reports of its neurological damage. Thus, during the pandemic, a large number of reports of delirium, brain neurodegeneration and cognitive deterioration have been evident. Objective: To evaluate whether a history of COVID-19 infection has an association with cognitive impairment in adults from an urban-marginal sample in the district of Puente Piedra, Lima, Peru, in the year 2022. Methods: This cross-sectional study is an analysis secondary which evaluated 193 Spanish-speaking adults ≥30 years old residents of the Puente Piedra district with and without self-reported history of COVID-19. Cognitive status was defined according to the score obtained by the "Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination" and "Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale" tests. Results: Of the total number of respondents, it was found that 27.75% had cognitive impairment. Also, it was observed that those with a confirmed history of COVID-19 were less likely to have cognitive impairment, compared to people without a reported COVID-19 diagnosis (PR: 0.9190; 95% CI: 0.818 - 1.031). On the other hand, regarding the secondary variables, we only found that the educational level was statistically significant from the secondary level onwards (PR: 0.7342; 95% CI: 0.595 - 0.912). Conclusion: No significant association was found between cognitive impairment and history of COVID-19 infection.
