In this document, the impact of banking concentration on financial stability will be addressed, focusing on the Peruvian case. The aim is to analyze the concentration-stability or concentration-fragility hypothesis found in the literature through an empirical approach using data from Peruvian commercial banks from 2005 to 2022. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) will be used to measure concentration, the Lerner Index to measure market power, the Boone Indicator to measure competition, and the Z-Score as an indicator of financial stability. A dynamic effects model using the Arellano-Bond method will be employed due to its extensive use in the reviewed literature. This work seeks to contribute to the literature in the specific context of Peru, based on the limited research on the subject during the pandemic period. It will also aim to support the concentration-fragility hypothesis, suggesting state intervention to balance market concentration and promote competition.
