Objective: To evaluate the association between self-reported oral health habits in infants and postpartum depression symptomatology in mothers from Lima, Perú. Methods: The study was observational, analytical and cross-sectional; 250 mothers living in Lima, Perú were invited to complete the survey. The “Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale” (EPDS) questionnaire (Spanish version) was used to evaluate postpartum depression symptomatology and some questions from the “Early Childhood Oral Health'' survey, translated and adapted to Spanish, were used to evaluate self-reported oral health habits in infants. In bivariate analysis, Chi Square and Fisher's exact tests were used; while, for multivariate analysis, logistic regression was used. Results: The prevalence of postpartum depression symptomatology in mothers was 66%. The results showed a statistically significant difference between the presence of postpartum depression symptomatology and self-reported oral health habits; which included toothbrushing frequency, toothbrush size, fluoridated toothpaste amount, and fluoridated toothpaste use in infants; in Logistic Regression model, an association was observed between the presence of postpartum depression with different dimensions of self.reported oral health habits variable. However, no association was found with breastfeeding in the crude (OR=0.47; 95% CI: 0.13-1.70), or in the adjusted analysis (OR=4.22; 95% CI: 0.66-27.06). Conclusion: An association was found between self-reported oral health habits in infants and postpartum depression symptomatology in mothers from Lima, Perú.
