The lack of production capacity is one of the main problems that afflict today many companies in the plastics sector, resulting in customer dissatisfaction and also affecting production costs. The present work of professional sufficiency had the objective of increasing the availability of equipment in a plastic manufacturing company through the TPM and SMED methodology. For this purpose, quantitative analyses were carried out through the use of diagnostic tools such as the Pareto Diagram, identifying problems of low availability of the extruder machine Line 1, which was at 83.33%, being lower than the sector with 90%. In order to find the solution, research was carried out through scientific articles with success stories related to the problem. Therefore, this research used two pillars of the TPM methodology, Autonomous Maintenance and Planned Maintenance, and also used the SMED methodology. As a result, it was determined that the availability of Line 1 machines increased up to 90.35%. As a consequence, their MTBF indicators improved: 24.75 hours to 28.86 hours, MTTR: 4.89 hours to 3.20 hours and mold change times improved: from 173 minutes to 101 minutes. Finally, it is concluded that the implementation of TPM and SMED methodologies reduced unscheduled downtime and mold change times in Line 1 of the extrusion process.
