This research focuses on studying a comparable bilingual corpus of American English and standard Spanish advertisements from the landing pages of four American brands in the automotive industry: Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, and Jeep. This study employs a textual analysis (macrostructural and microstructural) of these ads and a multimodal analysis that integrates semiotics. The importance of data collection for machine translation systems, along with the indispensable use of online marketing and advertising by various industries in the digital age, this study analyzes 64 advertisements (32 in English and 32 in Spanish). Based on the theory of Nord, and Hatim and Mason, this research aims to find similarities and differences in the macrostructural characteristics, composed of the structure, content organization, etc., and the microstructural ones, composed of the morphosyntactic and grammatical structures, ortho-typographic elements and visual aspects (images) of these advertisements. In addition, this study intends to expose the similarity in the communicative function of the images accompanying the texts of these advertisements, all based on the theory of multimodal analysis proposed by Tuominen et al. and Ketola.
