Monetary policy exerts a critical influence on the stability and performance of the financial system, regulating variables such as interest rates and credit conditions that directly affect the national economy. In Peru, as in many economies, the BCRP uses the reference rate and the reserve requirement rate as mechanisms to influence the supply of credit and, therefore, economic activity. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of variations in both the reference interest rate and the reserve requirement rate on the supply of credit from commercial banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks. The variables used allowed the analysis for the financial system to be carried out for the different types of financial institutions such as commercial banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks from 2003 to 2022, on a monthly basis. The random effects estimator was used for panel data; the results showed that variations in the reference rate have a greater impact on the supply of credit from commercial banks compared to finance companies and municipal and rural savings banks. Likewise, variations in the reserve requirement rate have a greater impact on the supply of loans of municipal and rural savings banks compared to finance companies and commercial banks. The aforementioned allowed us to accept the hypothesis formulated and supported by theory.
