With the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, deficiencies in the supply chain of the health industry became visible, mainly in the management of the procurement flow of medicines and medical supplies, both in first world and underdeveloped countries, which made it impossible to guarantee a quality level of care. Therefore, this professional competency work aims to increase the availability of medical supplies in a polyclinic that provides specialized services in the care of women during pregnancy in Lima, Perú, whose initial value is 83.51%, showing a difference of 5.49% with the average level of other first level health care centers in Lima. As an improvement proposal, tools from the Lean methodology, such as Work Process Standardization, 5S and Kanban, were implemented. Additionally, through the ABC-VED classification, an inventory control system has been established to maintain rigorous control over the most valuable and essential products for the case study. This resulted in a 2.51% increase in the level of availability through a 4-months pilot plan. After another improvement cycle of 4-months, the indicator is projected to exceed 89.00%, which will place the maternal and child polyclinic at an optimum supply level.
