The objective of this research is to implement a manufacturing plant of color brass key blanks (toothless). In doing so, the technical and economic viability was evaluated. Due to technology, raw material resources and labor force available in Peru, brass keys manufacturing is viable. Moreover, the product demand has been growing constantly in recent years. In the first chapter, the thesis project, the objectives and technical, social and economic justifications are presented. In the second chapter, a market research was conducted finding the apparent domestic demand (ADD), the project demand and main competitors. This research was based on newspapers articles, interviews with key distributors and databases to determine the imports and exports of keys. There are about 13 formal businesses that distribute keys and ironmongery products nowadays. The third chapter analyzes the location of the manufacturing plant. Puente Piedra district, in the city of Lima, was the location chosen due to the proximity of raw material, distributors and other factors based on macro and micro variables. Later, in the fourth chapter, the size of the manufacturing plant is set and it is defined by the bottleneck. For this project, it will be the roll-forming operation. By 2022, the size of the project will be of 6 731 000 keys, the break-even point will be 562 167 keys per year and the raw material will not be a constraining resource since Peru produces copper and zinc. In the fifth chapter, we will discuss the engineering of the project and analyze the production process, machinery, mass balance, number of operators and machines. The Guerchet method is used to calculate the production area. In the sixth chapter, the best option for setting up the company is chosen, which is S.A.C. (“closed corporation” in Spanish) due to it having better benefits than the others. The organization of the company is set, as well as the functions for each position. Finally, it was determined that the project requires and investment of S/ 3 482606, the economic NPV is 2 707435 and the IRR is 45.89 % with a payback period of 3 years, In contrast, the financial analysis showed a financial NPV of 5 615113, a financial IRR is 152.68 % and a payback period of 1 year. In conclusion, it has been demonstrated that the project is economically and financially viable.
