desarrollo de apendicitis aguda, (OR: 0.035 IC 95%: 0.011-0.108 p<0.0001), sugiriendo
desarrollar apendicitis aguda
To evaluate the association between dengue infection and the development of acute appendicitis in adult patients. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional analytical observational study was conducted, including patients admitted to Hospital Belén de Trujillo with a diagnosis of acute appendicitis during the period from February 28, 2023, to August 31, 2023. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were collected from a total of 98 patients. These data were analyzed using bivariate and multivariate statistical tests to determine any possible association between the studied variables. Results: Of the 98 patients, 55 had dengue infection, and of these, 6 developed acute appendicitis. Most patients with acute appendicitis and a history of dengue had dengue with warning signs (17.6%). Variables such as leukocyte count, elevated CRP, thrombocytopenia, and the presence of diabetes mellitus showed a significant association with the development of acute appendicitis (p<0.05 in all cases). Age, sex, residence, and arterial hypertension were not significantly associated with acute appendicitis. Conclusions: There is a significant association between dengue infection and the development of acute appendicitis (OR: 0.035 CI 95%: 0.011-0.108 p<0.0001), suggesting that patients with a history of dengue are less likely to develop acute appendicitis.
