The main objective of this research, entitled ‘Soil Zoning Study for the Design of Surface Foundations in the Pampas de San Juan, Laredo, Trujillo’, was to study, identify and evaluate the different types of soils present in the urban area of the sector in order to determine their bearing capacity. The research approach is descriptive, not experimental transversal and according to its orientation is of applied type. In order to obtain the results, data collection methods were used and current regulations were applied. Based on the fundamental principles of Geotechnical Engineering and Soil Mechanics, the study was developed on the basis of field, laboratory and cabinet work, following the guidelines of the E.050 Soils and Foundations of the National Building Regulations (RNE). The assessment was carried out by strategically locating exploration points, which allowed a detailed knowledge of the stratigraphic profile of the area, thus ensuring an accurate understanding of the soil characteristics. In the field, 11 exploration points were carried out, of which 5 were opencast soil pits and 6 were Dinamic Probing Light (DPL). These activities were carried out in accordance with the specifications of the E.050 - Soils and Foundations Standard, which were strategically distributed throughout the study area. This approach made it possible to obtain representative and reliable data on soil conditions, essential for correct zoning. To determine the bearing capacity of the soil, the Terzaghi and Meyerhof criteria were used in the design of surface foundations. This allowed the development of soil zoning maps for structural purposes, which is crucial to avoid settlement and failure of buildings. The results obtained offer foundation design alternatives that are suitable for both the soil characteristics and the different types of buildings planned for the Centro Poblado Pampas de San Juan.
