The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of a musical intervention on the intensity of acute post-cesarean section pain; to compare at 24 hours and at 24.30 hours the level of pain intensity, the fluctuations of physiological parameters and to characterize some demographic, maternal and perinatal variables. The research was based on a quasi-experimental design of non-equivalent control group. Sixty patients were selected. The visual analog scale (VAS) was used to assess pain. Initial analysis revealed no significant associations between the control and experimental groups at both 24 hours and 24.30 hours post-cesarean section for all variables. Pain intensity had a p = 0.302 pre-intervention and post-intervention was p = 0.052. Systolic blood pressure had a p = 0.036 post-intervention. Characterization of demographic, maternal and perinatal variables showed no significant associations (p > 0.05). Comparisons of pain intensity level (p = 0 0.001) and fluctuations of physiological parameters in each group revealed interesting significant associations. It can be concluded that musical intervention seems to have a positive effect on postoperative pain management in patients undergoing cesarean section.
