The objective of the research was to characterize the exudation extracted from the vegetative part of the Puya raimondii species, due to its medicinal use expressed by the locals. The sample was made up of 15 Puyas that passed their flowering season and that presented the best conditions of health (healthy) and vigor (high), these were stratified in altitude (4000-4050 masl, 4050-4100 masl, 4100-4150 masl) and collection time (January – February, March – April, May – June). The exudation secreted by the Puya itself (natural secretion) was collected. Among the physical and chemical characteristics, the following were analyzed: yield (g/m2), relative density (g/ml), moisture content (%), dasometric parameters (diameter, height), color (determined by the colorimeter and the Munsell table), acid index, refractive index and sugar level (fructose, galactose, glucose, lactose, maltose and sucrose). For the statistical analysis, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Chi Square test were used. It was found that the physical and chemical characteristics are not differentiated by altitude or collection time, except for color (p=0,029), since darker colors were appreciated in the May-June period (beginning of the dry season). In addition, an increasing trend of yield was found with altitude and with the passage from a rainy to dry season; an increasing trend of relative density with altitude; an increasing trend in moisture content from rainy to dry season; the diameter presented a decreasing trend with altitude; but increasing with the passage of a season from rain to dry; the height presented an increasing trend with the altitude; but decreasing with the passage from a rainy season to a dry season and the sugar levels were lower than 0,1 g/100g, regardless of the altitude and the time of collection.
