Objective: to identify the factors associated with prolonged hospitalization in newborns in the neonatal service of the Regional Hospital of Cusco in the period 2023. Method: An observational, cross-sectional, retrospective, case-control study was carried out in hospitalized newborns; considering their neonatal, maternal and delivery factors as factors to be estimated, as well as the length of hospital stay. To calculate the association, the OR and statistical significance were used through the P values and the 95% CI. The medical records of the newborns that met the selection criteria were reviewed. Results: 332 (111 cases and 221 controls) infants were included, and significance was found in neonatal factors (p<0.05): premature gestational age (OR:4.243, 95%CI 2.61-6.88), low birth weight (OR:8.66, 95%CI 5.15-14.56), APGAR (first minute: OR:3.81; 95%CI 1.24- 11.66; fifth minute: OR:3.07, 95%CI 2.62-3.58), respiratory distress syndrome (OR: 18.79, 95%CI 9.96-35.43), congenital malformations (OR:2.75, 95%CI 1.20-6.29), neonatal sepsis (OR:49.87, 95%CI 23.47-105.96); maternal factors such as: preeclampsia (OR: 5.52, 95% CI 2.92-10.44), inadequate CPN (OR: 2.44, 95% CI 1.50-3.96), chorioamnionitis (OR: 6.25, 95% CI 1.24-31.52), cesarean delivery (OR: 2.18, 95% CI 1.37-3.47). They did not reach significance in neonatal factors (meconium aspiration syndrome, hyperbilirubinemia, neonatal hypoglycemia), maternal factors (maternal age, history of abortion, PROM) and delivery factors: the type of vaginal delivery. Conclusions: Low birth weight, prematurity, APGAR with moderate depression, respiratory distress syndrome, congenital malformations, neonatal sepsis, preeclampsia, inadequate CPN, chorioamnionitis and cesarean delivery are factors associated with prolonged hospital stay.
