The aim of this study was to determine the priority of generic skills of the graduate from veterinary medicine school in Lima, based on the opinion of employers. In order to achieve this, members of the most influent companies in the veterinary market, who were also in charge of hiring new workers, were interviewed. People include in the survey gave their opinion on the importance of each generic skill listed and also on the level on which each one is achieve by the UNMSM veterinary medicine graduates. Thirty one skills were included in the study, divided into 3 groups: Group A or instrumental skills, Group B or interpersonal skills and Group C or systemic skills. The priority establish into the A group consider as more important: “Decision making” (24.5%), “Problem solving” (20.1%), and “Ability to analyze and synthesize” (13.5%). (Inconsistency 0.02); Inside the B group, the more important were: “Ethical commitment” (31.7%), “Team work” (24.4%) and “Critical and self-critical abilities” (12.5%). (Inconsistency 0.03);Inside the C group, the following: “Will to succeed” (18.2%), “Concern for quality” (18%) and “Capacity for applying knowledge into practice”(11.6%); In another hand, the skills pointed as the more developed by the FMV-UNMSM graduates were: “General knowledge of the profession” (3.079), “Ethical commitment”, “Appreciation of diversity and multiculturalism” (2.921) and “Will to succeed” (2.947). The less develop skills were: “Knowledge of a second language” (1.816), “Critical and self-critical abilities” (2.316) and “Leadership” (2.263). Comparing the importance of generic skills against the level develop by graduates, demonstrate that overall, the generic skills listed are being achieve by graduates in a desirable level; never less some of them need serious reinforcement.
