The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition of essential oil of fresh leaves of Erythroxylum novogranatense (Morris) “Coca“ var. Truxillense, antioxidant activity in vitro and in vitro antibacterial determination, against Streptococcus mutans. The essential oil was obtained from 10kg of leaves in a system with hydrodistillation drag of water vapor temperature and controlled pressure, getting a yield of 0.06 percent v / p, also performed the preliminary analysis of the essential oils and their physicochemical properties: specific gravity (0914 g / mL), refractive index (1463) and pH (6.45). Qualitative analysis of the chemical composition performed by gas chromatography / mass spectrometry (GC / MS), points in the chromatogram and spectral signals identifying the elucidation of the following chemicals: Nona-3, 5 - dien-2 - one, methyl salicylate, nonanoic acid, α-longipineno, decanoic acid, 2-Propenal, 3 - (2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexen-1-yl) - α-ciclocitrildeneacetona, trans-β-ionone , olivetol, apiol, Hexadecanoic acid, pitol, 9,12,15-octadecatrienóico acid, methyl ester and octadecanoic acid. The evaluation of the in vitro antioxidant activity of essential oil was conducted using the methods: 1) Method of capturing 2.2-difenilpicrilhidrazil radical (DPPH), 2) Method of harvesting the free radical and superoxide anion 3) Method of capturing hydroxyl radical. The essential oil of coca has antioxidant capacity as electron donor or hydrogen andalusia DPPH radical and superoxide radical sequestrant and presents prooxidant activity increasing degradation of deoxirribosa by the addition of ferrous ions. The determination of in vitro antibacterial activity of the essential oil was performed using the agar diffusion method, showing significant activity against Streptococcus mutans strain clinical concentrations of 100 and 50 percent. The chemical composition of essential oil of Erythroxylum novogranatense exerts an effect as a natural antioxidant and as a natural antibacterial agent against Streptococcus mutans.
